David Townshend

In this episode of Biblioscapes in Discussion, I am joined by David Townshend to talk about his book Impressions of the Norfolk Coast.

To accompany my recent exhibition at Cley I have produced a book ‘Impressions of the Norfolk Coast’.  The 39 images interpret the light and colours, shapes and patterns of Norfolk’s coastal landscapes and convey my individual perspective on places, be they grand views or intimate details, iconic subjects or mundane objects.

You can see my interpretations of Cley windmill, Thornham coal barn and Morston’s moorings. Inspiration also came from saltmarsh, sandflat and creek – and the bow of an orange boat. Lockdown didn’t stop me and, thanks to Photoshop, you can explore my imagined Norfolk coastline.

We also discussed a selection of David’s favourite books from his own bookshelf…

  • International Garden Photographer of the Year

  • The Northwest Passage… Barbara Rae

  • Spring Cannot Be Cancelled… David Hockney

You can see more of David’s work on his website.
