Bill Ward

In this episode of Biblioscapes in Discussion, I am joined by Bill Ward to talk about his work and his book Immersive.

My 4 year investigation into water, energy and movement, and what happens when you physically get into the sea with a wetsuit, waterproof housing and a moving camera, and become literally immersed within, and surrounded by, the very thing you’re photographing.

A few years ago I started to wonder what might happen if I put my two very favourite things together, and put a moving camera into the path of a breaking wave. This book is a celebration of, and a meditation on, the results… the visceral sensation of being not just an observer, but an active participant.

We also discussed a selection of Bill’s favourite photobooks from his own bookshelf…

  • David Ward’s Books

  • Art of Photography by Bruce Barnbaum

  • Photo Impressionism by Freeman Patterson

  • Guy Tal’s Books

  • Genesis by Sebastião Salgado

You can see more of Bill’s work on his website and find him on Instagram. You can pre-order his book here (correct as at 02-Oct-25).
