Cubby's Tarn

DESCRIPTION

In Cubby’s Tarn Joseph continues to explore his long held fascination with our connection to the land. To places; the past and present, how we have shaped and influenced its use, and of how it has shaped and affected our lives at both a physical and spiritual level. But one area that has intrigued him more than most is this notion of the genius loci – the belief that places have an abiding protective spirit.

With Cubby’s Tarn, what began as a journey of Joseph’s own search for and exploration of the genius loci ended with the creation of his own metaphoric visual eulogy and written documentary into the life and influences of a long standing family friend, John James Cubby MBE, the former Forestry Commission Chief Wildlife Ranger at Grizedale. Of whom the tarn – a large woodland pool – was renamed to as a memorial dedication of his services to wildlife management, forever now the spirit of this place.
