Abstract Mindedness
DESCRIPTION
For twelve months I have been making images throughout a traumatic period in my life, following a nervous breakdown in the spring of 2018. I have tried to use my art as a way of coping, healing and understanding what has been happening in my head. It has been a haven for my mind.
You might imagine, as I did at the beginning, that the work would be dark and gloomy during my depression - perhaps getting brighter and more colourful as I healed? I have been interested to see that this has rarely been the case.
‘Abstract Mindedness’ uses the images made over the 12 months from the time of the breakdown until just prior to going to press, along with some of my writing from the period, to explore the effects of the mind on my creativity. I am donating 100% of my profits from the book to the Young Minds mental health charity, which is devoted to helping young people who struggle with mental health issues. So I would just like to thank in advance every one of you who buys a copy in support of this project. I really appreciate it.
