Paul Wakefield

In this episode of Biblioscapes In Discussion I am joined by Paul Wakefield to discuss his work and his book, Indian Rites: Signs of Devotion.

An outsider’s observation of the adherence and dedication to spiritual practices performed as part of daily life in different parts of India.

Focusing more on the everyday rituals that Paul witnessed around him, ranging from moments of individual intimate devotion, to festivals where millions of pilgrims would congregate around auspicious dates, such as the Kumbh Melas.

We also discussed a selection books which Paul found influential, not all photography…

  • An Indian Summer by James Cameron

  • A Goddess in the Stones by Norman Lewis

  • The Nature of Passion by Ruth Prawar Jhabvala

  • V.S.Naipauls’ Indian trilogy - An Area of Darkness  /  A wounded Civilisation  /  A Million Mutinies Now
