Madeleine Lenagh

In this episode of Biblioscapes in Discussion, I am joined by Madeleine Lenagh to talk about her work and her book Perpetual Motion.

“My earliest memories are of the sea. I’ve never lived far from it for more than a few months. The restless movement of the waves and the swiftly changing moods echo my own restless and moody nature.
In 2021 I started this project, letting the changing faces of the seacoast inspire my images, finding ways to show the beauty of what some people find to be a very commonplace landscape.
My goal is to give voice to the unspoken in this otherwise unnoticed place.”

We also discussed a selection of Madeleine’s favourite photobooks from her own bookshelf…

  • Rythm of Nature by Sandra Bartocha

  • Nature Boy, the Photography of Olaf Peterson by Catherine Hammond and Shaun Higgens (editors)

  • Hokusai, a Life in Drawing by Henri-Alexis Baatsch

  • Seizing the Light, a Social & Aesthetic History of Photography by Robert Hirsch
