Brian David Stevens

In this episode of Biblioscapes In Discussion I am joined by Brian David Stevens to discuss his work and his books including Brighter Later and Beachy Head.

Beachy Head is the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain, rising to 162 metres (531 ft) above sea level. The peak allows views of the south east coast from Dungeness in the east, to Selsey Bill in the west. Its height has also made it one of the most notorious suicide spots in the world.

As an island race we have always looked out; to find food from the sea, to find opportunity to trade, to find adventure, and to find ourselves. Brighter Later is a journey around the coastal counties of Britain. It is a portrait of the island, looking out rather than in.

We also discussed a selection of Brian’s favourite books from his own bookshelf…

  • Paris… Robert Frank

  • 1960-2000…. Lee Friedlander (or any book by Lee)

  • Another Language… Marten Lange

  • Fear This… Anthony Suau

You can see more of Brian’s work on his website and find him on Instagram and Twitter.
